Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Routes and Schedules
- Layout and schedule all district bus routes in accordance with Texas Education Agency guidelines. Ensure all changes or additional bus runs are consistent with district policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Assign bus drivers, bus routes, vehicles, and driver substitutes for morning and afternoon shifts as directed by the transportation director.
- Post route schedules and state required route descriptions. Ensure each bus carries an accurate description of the morning and afternoon route.
- Process requests and arrange for extracurricular transportation.
- Prepare and update district maps showing areas served by each bus. Distribute maps to schools and to the public as directed.
- Assist with or prepare special education bus routes and ensure that drivers maintain a route folder with accurate descriptions of their morning and afternoon routes.
- Coordinate and schedule all summer school routes.
- Prepare and update district maps showing areas served by each bus. Distribute maps to schools and within the district as directed.
- General state required route descriptions and maintain computerized files and database.
Communication
- Dispatch drivers and vehicle and communicate with them using a telephone and two-way radio.
- Notify drivers, parents, and school personnel of any changes in a student’s bus service such as an address change, change in pick-up and drop-off location, change in time or bus change. Help campuses to place new students on buses and advise drivers of new or dismissed students.
- Respond to complaints about transportation services and address issues when appropriate. Redirect calls to operations director as needed.
Other
- Train district staff applying for commercial driver license to operate school buses.
- Handle driving and safety records of all district staff.
- Process driving and safety records of all new applicants.
- Serve as substitute bus driver as needed.
- Prepare and submit documents pertaining to transportation for in-house records and TEA required submittals.
- Provide TEEX Certified bus driver training to new employees and potential applicants.
- Organize and present monthly transportation safety meetings.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manage transportation drivers, bus aides, and mechanic staff. |
